2017 Honda Civic named as one of the UK's Safest cars

Tuesday,19 Dec 2017

Ten cars, including the 2017 Honda Civic, have been shortlisted from all tests conducted by Euro NCAP this year, and will go on to compete for the What Car? Safety Award 2018.

Experts at Euro NCAP rate cars against its five-star safety rating system – the industry benchmark for vehicle safety. The organisation updated its testing regime in 2016, making it tougher than ever to get that coveted five-star rating.

Of the 63 cars tested in 2017, the panel first removed all those that didn't achieve the top five-star Euro NCAP rating. They then took out those that only offered automatic emergency braking (AEB) as a cost option rather than as standard equipment, because this is considered a crucial feature in helping to save lives.

To further reduce the list of contenders for the top award to the final 10, the panel then removed any that didn't offer lane keep assist as standard.

Ticking all of these boxes, the 2017 Civic has made it onto the What Car? Safety Award 2018 shortlist. We look forward to bringing you news from the WhatCar? Awards night, set to take place on 23rd January 2018.
