Lings Honda MX Rider Wins 2016 Championship!Tuesday,27 Sep 2016
We are delighted to share the fantastic feat achieved by Lings-sponsored Honda CRF250F rider Harvey Thomas, who has earned the title of Norfolk & Suffolk Junior Motorcycle Club 2016 Champion in the Schoolboy class - all the more impressive when the fact that Harvey had to miss two race meetings mid-season to sit his GCSE Exams!
This meant that Harvey had the unenviable task of needing to finish in at least a top 3 spot for the rest of season at the same time as finishing ahead of his nearest rival in order give himself a chance at the Championship - and yet he achieved it nonetheless, finishing in an average 2nd place over 8 race meetings. This Championship win is a culmination of years of riding experience - Harvey started racing MX at just 7 years old and had building his reputation even as a youth, finishing 2nd in the overall Championship for the Schoolboy Class over the last few years. With a young career defined by steady progression a 2016 Championship win was definitely in sight.
Achieving his aim this season required some tactical riding from Harvey, as his father (and fellow MX enthusiast) Neil Thomas explained. "We knew that a consistent accumulation of points was key to any potential Championship win for Harvey, so we had to keep reminding him not to push himself or the bike too hard - not an easy thing to tell someone as competitive as Harvey! Thankfully he took his instructions on board and performed brilliantly, managing to take 2nd place in all three races of the Mildenhall season finale to take him to the top of the final leaderboard."
Harvey competes on his Honda CRF250F as supplied by Lings Honda and often races in the open class, open age Eastern Centre Adult Meetings, where he holds his own alongside racers with vastly more experience, as well as testing the waters with a few races in the British MX2 Championship in the Under 18's category. Harvey and dad Neil are always on the lookout for new sponsorship as Harvey looks to continue his impressive rise through the MX world - please contact Mark Powell at Lings Honda Harleston if you'd like more information on how to get in touch with Neil.
And just to top off a great year, Harvey has now started work as an Apprentice Motorcycle Technician, having passed his GCSE's!
