A Month of Awards for Hyundai

Friday,09 Dec 2016

Hyundai is celebrating a fantastic end of year as both the awesome IONIQ Hybrid and multi-award winning i10 take home further honours.

The IONIQ was the show-stopper as it was awarded top place in the Eco category, as decided by members of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, as well as taking runner up in the Family Car category. The i20 Hatchback was named runner up in the Small Car category to complete a brilliant result for the manufacturer.

The Hyundai IONIQ is the latest in Hyundai Motor's range of low-to-zero emission vehicles. By 2020 Hyundai expects to have introduced 28 alternative fuel models to market, giving drivers of all model types the opportunity to join the growing trend for low emissions vehicles - from classic small commuters to full on 4X4's.

Stephen Park, President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, said of the award: "Hyundai's progress in recent years is nothing short of remarkable. This is a forward-thinking manufacturer with an ever-expanding portfolio of desirable vehicles, of the innovative IONIQ is one. As the world's first car to offer three electrified powertrains, it demonstrated Hyundai's commitment to low and zero emissions motoring - but what we like most about this car is that it also looks good, drives well and is a great family hatchback."

Hyundai also excelled at the 2017 Carbuyer Awards, the with i10 hatchback and IONIQ series taking a combined 6 awards.

The IONIQ Hybrid was named 'Best Hybrid' thanks to its styling and value for money, and the IONIQ Electric was awarded 'Best Road-Tax-Exempt Car' due to its size and mileage capability. The IONIQ was also awarded Best Congestion Charge Exempt Car and Best Innovative Car. Hyundai Motor Group was also awarded further gongs for the i10 hatchback, named 'Best City Car' and 'Best Car That's Cheap to Insure' for a second consecutive year.

Stuart Milne, Editor of Carbuyer, said: "The Hyundai IONIQ is the new hybrid on the block, offering a far more mainstream look than radically-styled rivals. It's good to drive, with a conventional dual-clutch automatic gearbox as opposed to a CVT. That contributes to a nicer driving experience, too. It's capable of around 88mpg fuel economy and if you buy before April 2017 it won't cost you anything to tax. The real clincher here, though, is the IONIQ's price. It's possible to park one on your driveway for less than £20,000, which is £3,000 less than the cheapest Prius."

The IONIQ has also recently been awarded the maximum Euro NCAP safety rating of five-stars, confirming its status as one of the safest vehicles in its sector. Safety features that come as standard on the IONIQ such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Smart Cruise Control helped the IONIQ achieve top marks in all four testing categories: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian and Safety Assist.
